MANILA - POLICE said a dozen inmates have escaped from a southern Philippine jail and that guards fatally shot one of them who was crawling out of a hole in the wall.
Police Director Bensali Jabarani of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao said a manhunt had been launched for the fugitives, including a suspected Muslim militant, following Tuesday's jail break on southern Jolo island.
He said guards discovered the hole in the cell about 60cm in diameter just as an inmate was crawling out, prompting them to fatally shoot him. He said an investigation was under way.
Police said close to 100 inmates escaped last year in 28 jail breaks nationwide. -- AP
菲律賓‧十餘囚犯挖地道越獄
（菲律賓‧馬尼拉）十多名菲律賓囚犯在監獄挖了一個地道，成功越獄。這些囚犯都跟菲國回教激進組織阿布沙耶夫有關係。
越獄犯因為殺人罪或非法擁有鎗枝罪被判刑，在菲律賓南部一所監獄服刑。早前他們從監獄裡面挖了一個10公尺長、1公尺寬地道，十多名囚犯從這個地道逃了出去。

棉蘭警長札巴拉尼表示，獄卒發現囚犯逃獄時已經太遲了。他補充，守衛發現囚犯越獄時，已有12人逃走。其中一個囚犯在爬出隧道時遭守衛開鎗擊傷。
